Ghostbusters bercerita tentang kelompok pembasmi hantu ternama di kota New York. Film ini akan menjadi lanjutan dari dua film sebelumnya, bukan reboot atau format lainnya. Latar waktunya akan dibuat di masa sekarang.

“Ghostbuster 3 merupakan chapter berikutnya di franchise original. Bukan sebuah reboot. Apa yang terjadi di tahun 80an terjadi di tahun 80an, dan film ini akan memiliki latar waktu pada saat ini.”

Jason Reitman, putra kandung Ivan Reitman yang merupakan sutradara asli Ghosbusters, didapuk untuk mengarahkan versi terbaru film ini. Dia juga ikut menulis skenario dengan Gil Kenan dan berencana mulai syuting dalam waktu dekat.

Film yang digarap di bawah payung Sony Pictures ini sudah menjadwalkan rilis pada musim panas 2020. Syuting juga rencananya akan dimulai dalam beberapa bulan ke depan.

Selain itu, masih belum diketahui juga apakah para cast dari film orisinalnya seperti Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, dan Ernie Hudson, akan kembali tampil dalam film tersebut.

Sinopsis

Plot film ini masih dirahasiakan, namun satu sumber mengatakan jika fokus film ini akan mengenai single mother dan keluarganya. di mana Coon berperan sebagai ibu dan Wolfhard sebagai putranya. Tidak diketahui bagaimana ceritanya akan terhubung ke seri Ghostbusters asli. Namun, Sigourney Weaver dikabarkan akan kembali sebagai Dana Barrett.

The plot of the film is still a secret, but one source said that the focus of the film would be on single mothers and their families. where Coon played mother and Wolfhard as his son. It is not known how the story will be connected to the original Ghostbusters series.  However, Sigourney Weaver is rumored to be returning as Dana Barrett.
